DETECTION OF POTENTIAL RESERVOIRS OF HANTAVIRUS IN AREAS OF SNASPE THROUGH THE STUDY OF LESSER HORNED OWL (BUBO MAGELLANICUS) AND BARN OWL (TYTO ALBA). (2019). Brotes Científicos: Revista De Investigaciones Escolares, 3(1), 43-54. https://doi.org/10.35588/bc.v3i1.57

Abstract

We carried the research in 6 areas of SNASPE: North (Fray Jorge National Park and Las Chinchillas National Reserve), Centro (National Reserve Lake Peñuelas and Clarillo River National Park) and South (Conguillío and Villarrica National Parks). We collected 211 egagropylars belonging to Tucuquere (Bubo magellanicus) and White Owl (Tyto alba), later they analyzed and identified their dietary items and which of them behave as potential rodents reservoirs of hantaviruses. The results show that the SNASPE areas of the south of the country have a greater abundance of rodents that act as potential reservoirs of hantaviruses, and, with a high seropositivity (this being the case of Oligoryzomys longicaudatus) which could increase the risk of contagion in this area, compared with those in the north and center. The importance of raptors as controllers of rodents, potential reservoirs of hantaviruses of high and low seropositivity is evident.
