THE FUTURE IN THE HANDS OF YOUNG PEOPLE. THE CASE OF THE ADUEN DEL DAO INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY, LOS LAGOS REGION

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to analyze the ways in which the Aduen del Dao Indigenous Community projects that its young people will be involved in the exercise of customary uses mentioned in the request for Coastal Spaces of Original Peoples (ECMPO). The hypothesis is that the Aduen community projects that young people will not be involved in the exercise of customary uses mentioned in the ECMPO application, mainly because new generations will migrate to the city in search of greater opportunities, therefore, the uses would be lose in time. A qualitative case study methodology was applied. Our results indicate that the community projects that young people will continue to be involved, in the future, with the exercise of these uses, mainly because they are part of their identity. In addition, the acquisition of greater tools resulting from formal education that will impact on better management of the ECMPO that is requested is projected in the new generations. In conclusion, we can say that our hypothesis was refuted by the evidence, since the community has young people who focus their identity based on customary uses and, these are committed to their community.
