Abstract
The growing impacts of road infrastructure on wildlife is an environmental problem that has only received attention in recent years in Chile. Previous studies have identified hot spots, mainly in the north-central part of the country, which concentrate a large number of attacks on vertebrates, which makes it imperative to identify strategies that make this problem visible in public opinion. In this study, we determine which species or groups of species have a greater impact on a social network where users give their opinion on photographs of native vertebrates run over. The results show that mammals have a higher degree of interaction. Within this group, the species most shared and at the same time with the highest number of comments are the wild cats: Gato colocolo (Leopardus colocolo) and Gato güiña (Leopardus guigna) followed by the Red fox (Lycalopex culpaeus). Our results suggest mammals as the best candidates for campaigns to raise awareness of this socio-environmental problem.
