Abstract

In order to compare a protected wilderness area with a disturbed suburban sector in terms of its diversity of small mammals, owl pellets of white owl (Tyto alba) were collected from the La Aurora sector of Curacaví, which is identified as a suburban area with a certain degree of of disturbance; and others obtained from the Río Clarillo National Park. Dietary items of T. alba were identified, focusing on small mammals. A higher percentage of exotic rodents is obtained in the Río Clarillo National Park than in the Curacaví sector. A calculation of the Simpson diversity index is made, where a slightly higher value is obtained in the Curacaví area compared to the Río Clarillo National Park. It is inferred that the protected wilderness area under study is serving as a favorable habitat for exotic rodents. In addition, it is inferred that the hypothesis of intermediate disturbances could be influencing the results in the Simpson index for the Curacaví area.
