How do I publish my article?

Send your manuscript in .doc or .docx format, including any images, directly to: brotescientificos@usach.cl

Please include:

  • The name(s) of your supervising teacher(s)
  • Your school's address (street, city, region)
  • Whether the work has been presented at any science fairs
  • The names of all authors and their grade levels

How is an article selected?

  • Our Editorial Assistant receives the manuscript and forwards it to the Editor-in-Chief
  • Together with an advisor from the corresponding subject area, two expert reviewers are selected
  • The names of the students and the school are removed to ensure a fair and unbiased evaluation
  • The manuscript is sent to the reviewers, who assess it and complete an evaluation form

What is evaluated?

The evaluation is based on three main criteria:

  • Clarity and Consistency of the Manuscript: The article should be clearly written, logically organized, and coherent across its different sections (introduction, development, results, and conclusion). We aim for a well-structured manuscript that communicates its message effectively
  • Creativity or Innovation: We value original approaches, new perspectives, creative solutions, or innovative ways of addressing a topic. The work does not need to be entirely novel; what matters is that it reflects the author's own contribution and thinking
  • Evidence of a Genuine Learning or Research Experience: The article should demonstrate an authentic process of inquiry, observation, analysis, or experimentation. Perfection is not required; rather, we look for evidence that students actively participated in the learning and research process

How do we ensure these criteria are met?

Reviewers complete an evaluation rubric based on the criteria above and provide constructive feedback to help improve the manuscript before publication. The entire process is supported by the editorial team, who will guide authors whenever assistance is needed.

How long does the process take?

  • Initial Editorial Screening: 1-4 days from the moment we receive your manuscript
  • Expert Review: Reviewers typically take between 15 and 30 days to evaluate the manuscript
  • Author Revisions: After receiving reviewer comments, authors have up to 30 days to submit revisions
  • Editorial Assessment: The editor reviews the revised version, a process that takes approximately one week
  • Final Production and Layout: Preparation of the final publication format takes between 5 and 15 days

Can I upload graphs, tables, or images?

Absolutely! You may submit supplementary materials through the OJS platform, including:

  • Tables in Excel (.xlsx) format or embedded within the Word document
  • Photographs of the project in .JPG or .PNG format, with a maximum file size of 2 MB and a minimum resolution of 1500 × 1000 pixels (300 dpi recommended)
  • Charts and graphs, whether digitally created or hand-drawn and scanned, provided they are clearly legible
  • Illustrations, drawings, and diagrams created by the students that help explain the content of the work

Our design team reviews all supplementary materials and will contact authors if adjustments are needed to improve presentation quality. We will also help ensure that all materials are visually appealing, clear, and consistent with the style of Brotes Científicos.

To ensure your work can be properly evaluated and prepared for publication, please follow these requirements:
