Abstract

Climate Change has taken the public spotlight, due to the consequences of the mega-drought that affects a large part of the national territory and the Coquimbo region in particular. That is why investigating the knowledge and beliefs of the student population is of interest when it comes to projecting citizens with the capacity to act in the face of the effects of global warming. For the development of the exploratory study, the research assumption was the existence of differences between the students, in their knowledge and beliefs about global warming. We work with 10 girls and 10 volunteer boys, from sixth to eighth grade (sample of 60 students) from Colegio Cumbres del Choapa, to whom a survey of 3 knowledge questions and 3 beliefs about the effects of global warming. Among the main results, it was obtained that a large part of the respondents establishes a relationship between the phenomenon of global warming and the hole in the ozone layer. On the other hand, a significant number of students argue that the cause of global warming is based on human actions and that it is largely irreversible. These and other results are discussed, with a view to suggesting actions towards our teachers.
